Weathered Patina & My Craigslist Find

romantic country magazine clothandpatinaWell it seems like centuries since I’ve done a blog post (hangs head in shame) but am so happy to being sharing this one with you today. My most favorite find made its way into “Romantic Country Magazine“! I was so excited to have my favorite find featured! There magazines are my most favorite! I read and browse their beautiful pages as often as I can. You can always count on gorgeous photos and tons of inspiration!

I remember when I first laid eyes on this beauty while browsing Craigslist and knew right away I had to have this one. “You can see a before photo in the upper right hand corner”. It looked large and wasn’t quite sure if it would fit in my tiny space but was certainly going to try. A girl who was in the process of moving had to have this gone asap which worked just great for me. Grabbed a truck, a little man strength and was on my way down south to take a look. I couldn’t tell from the photo but to me looked to be carved teak with an Indonesian flair which I just love! But of course you never know until you actually see it up close! I think I fell in love before I even got out of my car! It was gorgeous! I was a little taken aback to see it sitting outside in the elements but was in great shape and had to have it.

Have to say this thing ways a ton! I alone could not even budge it let alone pick this thing up and put it in a truck. So happy to have had someone on hand that was happy to help! I met up with its previous owner to pay for this beauty as I was anxiously awaiting to get this home and call it mine. I was so ready to negotiate a price on this one since I had already fallen in love but thank goodness she was oh so willing to part with it and sold it to me for $80! Can you believe it!?!

I was super excited to get it back in my place and even happier to see that it was going to fit on the wall between the living and dining areas. I hopped online right away to do some research in hopes to find a little more info on my new gorgeous piece. I wasn’t able to find this exact piece but was happy to find that these can sell into the thousands!

Knowing a little of its history I honestly tried keeping it in its original state. I stared at this every day from every angle trying to be comfortable with the teak color, but just couldn’t do it. I knew I would love it even more {if that’s at all possible} having it painted in a grey color to blend better with the rest of my home. So the painting began. I knew I may get some flack from some of you but am so happy I painted it. I used mostly “Paris Grey” chalk paint by Annie Sloan with bold brushing of “Pure White” to keep in with the rustic feel. I sanded it here and there so I would be able to see the teak through the grey and have to say I just love the blend of these three colors! I love that it still feels rustic but has an elegant Indonesian Country feel to it. I happen to think the details are more prominent after painting it. And it’s just paint right? Worse case scenario you could remove the paint and go back to its original state or start over. I admit I had a brief moment of “what did I do”, did I actually just paint over hand carved teak! But that moment passed quickly as I was watching it’s true beauty “to me” unfold.

I have for now left the original hardware which is black only because I haven’t decided if I want to paint them in a warm bronze color or replace them with something different all together? What do you all think, love them, leave them?

And my little character there “Bob” always finds a way to sneak himself in my photos! Total ham that one. So he gets his 15 minutes of fame as he graces the pages of Romantic Country Magazine.

Look at this cover! So, so pretty! Doesn’t it make you want to pretty up your space? This is a porch you could spend hours on sipping your favorite summer drink, reading a good book, relaxing on a beautiful summers day. But, with a pretty porch like this it would be a place that I would want my friends and family to gather along with me. Hoping you get a chance to grab a copy of this beautiful magazine. The inside is just as beautiful and inspiring as its cover!

I’m a huge fan of browsing Craigslist in search of pieces like this one. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure! Especially if you have the foresight to see it’s true potential!

As always, thanks so much for stopping in!
